Inspired by the work of Dr Seuss our Above and Beyond Education and Care Centre in Te Puna is a marvel of creativity, a place where children are free to be children. We have three unique areas specially designed with your child’s developmental age in mind. Each one carefully crafted to reflect our love for children and passion for early childhood education and childcare.
Our love and passion for early childhood flows from our environments through to our teaching. We maintain a high teacher to student ratio, well above the required standard. This means teachers have the time to teach and children, have a welcoming home-like place to feel safe and happy.
Leonie our Educational Leader at Te Puna. She has always had a passion for early childhood education and is a fully qualified teacher. In her spare time Leonie likes to play social badminton, go bike riding, swim and soak in the famous BOP sun. Above all, Leonie loves to see children at the centre progress and is dedicated to being involved in their unique learning journey.
Melissa joined our toddler team in 2019 after graduating from Bethlehem Tertiary Institute. Her fun gentle nature over flows as she interacts with the children on a daily basis. Her compeitive side comes out on the court as she enjoys playing indoor football.
Ally, our lovely 3-5 year old teacher, has had 19 years experience in early childhood education. She draws from a wealth of professional experience as well as personal experience gained raising her 4 wonderful children. Ally has a genuine passion for children’s education and an unrivalled wealth of patience. As a family they love getting outdoors, camping, the bush and the beach spending quality time together with friends.
Alice always brings the fun to Above and Beyond Te Puna. Her warm smile and gentle nature makes her a favourite with both children and parents alike. We met Alice when she arrived as a student on practicum at our centre. We didn’t want to lose her and so offered her a position when she had finished her studies.
Lorna grew up in Matamata and moved to Te Puna a couple of years ago with her partner. She spends a lot of time forming positive, encouraging relationships with children, parents and whānau. She enjoys fishing and working on her avocado orchard in her spare time.
Joanna is our infant teacher with over 15 years experience working and caring for children. Having spent many years living overseas, she became UK qualified in Early Childhood Education in 2010. Since returning to New Zealand, Joanna has continued her studies and has completed her New Zealand Bachelor of Teaching in Early Childhood Education.
Donna graduated from Bethlehem Tertiary Institute in 2006 with a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) in Early Childhood. She has over 11 years of teaching experience. Having lived in the Tauranga area for forty years, she enjoys the Bay of Plenty for its weather, wonderful beaches and great community. In her spare time, Donna enjoys reading, movies, cooking, gardening, walking and going to the gym.
